Men’s Division of Zone 2

The Men’s Division of Zone 2 annually provides a variety of services to member clubs as well as to playemens1rs.  Member clubs can call upon the zone for support in the areas of course rating, handicapping and rules.

In addition Zone 2 stages two major championships for the benefit of competitive golfers both amateur men as well as for amateur seniors (age 55 & over as of the date of the competition).  In addition to declaring zone champions these events serve as qualifiers for the provincial championships.

Below also find a roster of open or invitational events hosted by member clubs throughout the zone.  For more details on these events, we recommend that you visit the respective club’s website.  The website address of each member club can be found on the Member Club page of this website.  Where a Club has provided a poster to advertise their event, we have provided it as a link directly from the event listing.

The Men’s Amateur wrapped up on Sunday, June 16th concluding the 36 hole stroke play competition.  Cory Hilditch (Fairview Mountain Golf Club) led after the first round after a great 3 under par 69, giving him a 2 stroke lead on Cam Davie (Penticton Golf Club) who shot a solid 1 under par 71, as did Justin Deol (Tobiano Golf Club).  Close as well were even par 72’s, shot by two young Zone 2 Junior Golfers Ryan Vest and Braxton McDonald.  Weather was very warm and players had to contend with wind during the later part of the day.  Day two featured more strong play, with two sizzling rounds of 68 shot by Norm Bradley of Kelowna G & CC who had opened with a 73, and Cam Davie of Penticton Golf Club.  Cory could not match is first round score but did shoot a solid 73.  As a result Cam Davie emerged as the winner of the 2019 Zone 2 Men’s Championship and the winner of the logoed golf bag with a fine 5 under par 139.  Joining him on the zone team is Norm Bradley who finished 2nd with a three under par 141 followed by Cory Hilditch at one under par 143.  There was a five way tie at 144 and a playoff was held to select the 4th zone team member.  Ryan Vest made birdie on the 2nd hole sinking a 20 foot putt.  It is unprecedented for a 13 year old to be joining the Men’s Amateur Zone Team, however he finished tied for 4th in a field of 51 players, no small feat.

Thank you to Vernon Golf & Country Club for hosting the championship. The course was in great shape, several volunteer assisted with timing stations, and the Pro Shop Staff were most helpful and the Clubhouse staff provided great service.  Special thanks to Barb Silvester who organized the volunteer timers.  Thanks also to the Zone 2 Rules Officials and Directors and Co-Chairs Eric Breitkreuz and Terry Nicol for organizing the event and ensuring that players experienced a quality event.
